Turkey has become the world's leading destination for hair restoration, and Istanbul sits at the centre of it. Every year, hundreds of thousands of international patients travel here for a hair transplant in Turkey, drawn by experienced surgeons, high-volume clinics and prices that are a fraction of those in the UK, US and Western Europe. That scale matters: surgeons and technicians here perform these procedures day in, day out, across FUE and DHI techniques and every kind of hair loss pattern.

Luna Clinic Medical Travel Services is a medical travel coordination company based in Istanbul. We are not a clinic and we do not perform surgery. Instead, we connect you with independent partner surgeons who hold board certification and work at accredited facilities, then coordinate everything around your treatment: flight guidance, hotel accommodation, airport and clinic transfers, interpretation, and communication with your surgeon before, during and after your visit. Your surgeon makes every clinical decision; we make the trip simple.

Whether you are looking to restore a receding hairline, add density to a thinning crown, rebuild a patchy beard or fill in sparse eyebrows, there is a technique suited to your case. Below you can explore each hair transplant procedure we coordinate, understand what a typical trip involves, and see why patients from across Europe and beyond choose to organise their treatment with Luna. When you are ready, a free, no-obligation consultation is the best next step: your partner surgeon can assess your donor area and give a graft estimate, often from photos before you even travel.

The techniques

FUE, DHI and choosing the right method

The two techniques you will hear about most are FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). In an FUE hair transplant, the surgeon harvests individual follicular units from the donor area, usually the back and sides of the head, opens tiny recipient channels, and places the grafts. It is versatile and well suited to covering larger areas of thinning. In a DHI hair transplant, grafts are loaded into a Choi implanter pen and placed directly into the scalp without separately creating channels first, which can allow very dense, controlled placement and is often favoured for designing a natural hairline.

Neither technique is universally better. The right choice depends on your degree of hair loss, the density and quality of your donor area, the area to be treated and your goals. This is a clinical judgement, and it belongs to your partner surgeon, not to a coordinator. During your consultation, your surgeon assesses your donor supply, estimates the number of grafts you are likely to need and recommends the approach that fits your case. Specialist variations, such as afro hair transplant techniques for tightly curled follicles, or female hair transplant and hairline lowering for women, require particular experience, which is one reason working with a verified, experienced surgeon matters so much.

Your trip

What a hair transplant trip to Istanbul looks like

Most hair transplant trips to Istanbul are short. A typical stay is around three nights: you arrive and have your consultation and blood tests, the procedure takes place the following day and usually lasts several hours depending on the number of grafts, and then you return for a first wash and a check before flying home. Luna coordinates your accommodation, your airport and clinic transfers, and an interpreter where you need one, so language is never a barrier.

After the procedure, the transplanted hair typically sheds within the first few weeks, which is completely normal and expected. New growth usually starts at around three to four months, thickens noticeably by six to nine months, and most patients see close to their final result at about twelve months. Because that timeline plays out after you return home, Luna keeps you connected to your partner surgeon for follow-up communication, and your surgeon guides your aftercare. We handle the logistics; the medical care stays with the surgeon throughout.

Hair transplant in Turkey: frequently asked questions

How much does a hair transplant in Turkey cost?

A hair transplant in Turkey is far more affordable than in the UK, US or Western Europe, where the same work often costs several times more. Most international patients travel on an all-inclusive package that bundles the surgical fee charged by the partner surgeon with hotel accommodation, VIP transfers, medications and aftercare products into one transparent quote. The exact price depends on the number of grafts, the technique (FUE or DHI), and the surgeon. Luna presents the surgeon fee and the travel cost separately so you can compare honestly.

Is a hair transplant in Turkey safe?

Turkey is one of the busiest hair transplant destinations in the world, with a high concentration of experienced surgeons and technicians working at accredited facilities. As with any medical procedure, there are risks, and results depend on your donor area, technique and the surgeon. Luna only introduces patients to independent partner surgeons whose credentials can be independently verified. Your surgeon discusses the specific risks for your case during consultation.

What is the difference between FUE and DHI?

Both are follicular unit extraction methods. In FUE, the surgeon opens the recipient channels first and then places the grafts. In DHI, grafts are loaded into a Choi implanter pen and implanted directly, without separately opening channels. DHI can allow dense, precise placement and is often used for hairlines, while FUE is versatile for larger areas. Which suits you is a clinical decision made by your partner surgeon.

How many grafts will I need?

The number of grafts depends on the degree of hair loss, the size of the area to be covered and the density you want. A receding hairline may need fewer grafts than a full crown restoration. Your partner surgeon assesses your donor area and gives a graft estimate during your consultation, often from photos before you travel.

How long do I need to stay in Istanbul for a hair transplant?

Most patients stay around 3 nights: arrival and consultation, the procedure day, and a follow-up wash and check before flying home. Luna arranges your accommodation and transfers around this schedule and coordinates remote follow-up once you return home.

When will I see the results of my hair transplant?

Transplanted hair typically sheds within the first few weeks, which is normal. New growth usually begins around three to four months, with noticeable thickening by six to nine months. Most patients see close to their final result at around twelve months. Individual timelines vary, and your surgeon will explain what to expect for your case.

What does Luna arrange for a hair transplant trip?

Luna coordinates the travel side: flight guidance, hotel accommodation, airport and clinic transfers, interpretation, and ongoing communication with your independent partner surgeon before, during and after your visit. The surgical fee, procedure and clinical aftercare are arranged and quoted directly by your surgeon. We present both quotes together, with no hidden costs.
