Two weeks before the surgery, patients are advised to stop taking aspirins, herbal tea, and vitamins. Patients are also recommended to abstain from taking any food and liquids and smoking 8 hours before the surgery commences.

Step 1 – Anaesthesia. Depending on how complex the operation is, your surgeon will help you select the perfect anesthesia. Two options are available: intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. But in most cases, it’s usually the latter. Regardless of the anesthesia that you will be given, you will feel comfortable during the surgery. 

Step 2 – The incision/cut. If it’s a full tummy tuck surgery, two cuts are made during this process. The first cut is horizontally made in the region between the pubic hairline and belly button. The amount of excess skin or fat will determine the shape and length of the cut. When the stomach skin is lifted, the abdominal muscles lying underneath are then fixed. The second incision might be essential to evacuate loose skin in the upper belly. The upper stomach skin is pulled down, cutting the loose skin and the remaining skin sutured together. The belly button is then well-positioned. 

Step 3 – Incisions are closed. Skin glues, sutures, tapes, or clips are used to close the cuts. 

Step 4 – Results of the surgery. Soon after the surgery, the tummy will be flatter, and it will be proportional to your weight and body type.

Depending on how complex the surgery is, patients usually go home a few hours after the procedure. Sometimes, your surgeon may recommend spending a night or two at the hospital for safely monitoring by their doctor. The recovery time may take close to two weeks or a month since the operation involves abdominal muscles. When the patient feels moderate discomfort after the tummy tuck surgery, to ease this, the doctor prescribes Paracetamol, not Aspirin. During the recovery period, patients are advised to desist from lifting heavy objects.
