How to prepare for Dental Bridges

The process of preparation often involves removing some of the tooth enamel to accommodate the crown. All efforts made to ensure the removal of enamel do not negatively impact overall dental health.

  • Abstaining from Aspirin or any blood thinner meds must be done for at least a week before the procedure day.
  • If you are on any meds, please inform your dentist of your first consultation.
  • Patients shouldn’t smoke or drink alcohol 24 hours before and after the surgery.
  • If you have a chronic disease, you should inform the hair transplant specialist.

How Is Dental Bridges Surgery Performed

Dental bridge procedures are done over two sessions:

First Session — Tooth Preparation and Temporary Bridge Placement

During your first visit to Luna clinic, you will be given a local anesthetic. This will help you feel comfortable during the surgery.

Your dentist will then file and shape the abutment teeth (teeth supporting the bridge). All of the abutment teeth will be prepared like a dental crown. That means all of the enamel and any additional tooth structure are taken out to create a clear way to the other tooth.

After shaping the teeth, impressions are made, and they are sent to a dental laboratory. This is where your custom-tailored dental bridge will be made.

While the permanent custom-made bridge is being created, a temporary bridge will be placed over the newly shaped teeth and gap. Suppose the surrounding teeth are not strong enough to support a bridge. Your dentist will put dental implants into your jawbone.

Second Session — A Permanent Bridge Is Placed

Once the permanent dental bridge is ready, you will have to return to the clinic again.

To deal with sensitivity or discomfort, you will be given a local anesthetic before removing the temporary bridge.

In this session, expect your dentist to remove the temporary bridge and also clean your teeth.

To make sure that the permanent dental bridge fits properly, your dentist will take x-rays of the bridge. Then, the bridge and teeth are bonded together using special dental cement.

Dental Bridges Recovery Timeline

It usually takes between seven and ten days for patients to go back to their regular diet. In some cases, there will be more loading 2 to 6 months after the dental work, depending on a patient’s bone destiny. You will be given guidelines to follow after the surgery by your dentist. You have to carefully follow the instructions for a swift recovery and in order to get desired results.
